How To Super Optimize For A Competitive Keyword 
 
Quite often, you may be working with a highly competitive keyword and you just don't know how to optimize for it. You have to be strategic with both on and off-page or you'll never make any progress. If your keyword is not moving up, you should at least start implementing the strategy listed below. 
 
Super optimization is not an over-optimization as we all know that over-optimization leads to ranking penalty these days. It simply means we need to do everything we can to improve and fortify the rankings based on the strategies used by successful SEO marketers. 
 
Following are the steps you should observe: 
 
1) If the target keyword is "yoga mat", come up with a list of related keywords called keyword clout. Here are some keywords we can potentially use for broad match optimization. You can think of them as support keywords for our focal keyword. I like to call this keyword clout

2) Create a page and optimize the meta tags using the keywords above as broad match. Here is an example: 
 
<TITLE> We specialize in yoga and pilates training mats. We carry premium microfiber yoga strap, towel, and mat.</TITLE> 
 
<META Name="Description" Content="We are the top resource for premium yoga and pilates training mats. We are a one-stop shop with discounts for microfiber yoga strap, towel, and mat."> 
 
3) Write an article using the broad match keywords. Make sure the page has a minimum of 500 words. Be careful not to veer off into different topics. Covering too many different topics from the same page can dilute the topical focus.  
 
If you are not sure how to organize the page and its content quickly, creating paragraphs under each subheading using the keyword phrases shown above might not be a bad idea.  
 
4) Create a Youtube video. Create a video using the content from step 3.  
 
5) Optimize the meta information of the video similar to the page meta information from step 2 when uploading to Youtube. For description tag, use the text from step 3.  
 
6) Embed the video into the page. Since the on-page and Youtube video meta information is similarly optimized, this will strengthen the overall on-page optimization. 
 
7) Create a press release and add a naked link to the page we are optimizing for. Do not use do follow exact match anchor text on the syndicated press releases as you can get penalized for over-optimization. Our sources are telling us that using do follow anchor text over 40% can easily trigger spam alert. Since press releases can get syndicated to a large number of publications, it can leave a footprint if you use exact match anchor text. 
 
8) Create links to the webpage, Youtube video, and the published press release articles using branded anchor text and related keywords listed above. 
 
Create lots of passive links using keyword variations and add them over time. Below are some examples:

9) Share the product page on social media sites. You can share the URL using sites like stumbleupon or Digg. 
 
10) The higher the competition, the more frequently you'll need to create press releases. I recommend doing the steps above and observe for 2 months. If the ranking is not improving, additional press releases will be needed using different press release services. 11) Create Tier 2 contextual links to press release page URLs. Adding tier 2 links to press releases help Google discover them quicker in additions to strengthening the link juice.
