Some of the most visited and popular sites are social media sites. From SEO point of view, they naturally earn Google's trust from pure algorithmic perspective. They are without a doubt, high authority sites. With this given knowledge, what then becomes important is the amount of presence you have using these high authority sites, not the number of twits or likes.
